6.00 AM

My alarm is going off but my eyes do not want to open. I hit the snooze button as I roll over to get 5 more minutes of sleep. As my alarm goes off for a second time, I know that I have NO choice but to drag myself out of bed to make myself a coffee to kick off the day. After my coffee I am ready for the day, so I jump under the shower to get myself ready for work.

7.02 AM

My make-up is on, so I quickly pack my lunch as I race out the door to make it just in time for the bus.

7.58 AM

I arrive to work and as I head to the staff fridge to put away my lunch, I run into my previous team members. As we chat I am debriefed on all the upcoming events that are happening in my old role, and the information that I am receiving is great as I know that their work will impact my current teams’ workloads.

8.16 AM

I finally get to my desk and inform my supervisor of the new insights from my old team members. After I log on for the day I quickly go through my emails to check that I have no new priorities as today I will be focusing on our teams weekly Intel reporting and as I search through my emails I soon realise that I am in the clear. I quickly complete the search for the Intel that has come through for the week related to our reporting requests and as I gather all the Intel I have a feeling of relief wash over me, as I may just get this report sent out by the end of the day.

9.05 AM

My supervisor invites me for a coffee run, just what I need!! We quickly duck out to a local café and I order an almond cappuccino to get me through the rest of the day as I complete this report. As we walk to the café we update each other on where we are at, where things are heading and it gives us an opportunity to create a stronger working relationship as we get some insight into each other’s personal lives.

10.10 AM

My grad project team has just sent through a meeting request to discuss submitting our project. Being so close to Christmas everyone is finalising their current team tasks. Our meeting time is rescheduled several times over the next hour before we finally find a time that suits the whole team.

12.00 PM

Lunch, yes!! I meet with a fellow grad on the rooftop as it is great to be out in the sun. We catch up with each other and as I notice one of my team members walk out, I introduce them to my fellow grad and we all share our lunch together.

12.42 PM

I excuse myself as I know I have a meeting coming up shortly, so I head back down to the kitchen clean my lunch containers and head back to my desk and continue with the report as I wait for the meeting to start.

1.00 PM

I put my headset on and log in to our meeting as many of our members are working from home or out of state ATM meaning our team meetings are now conducted online. We discuss details around submitting our final report. The big key topic is WHO can print and bind our report or do we source this task externally?

1.28 PM

I excuse myself from our grad meeting and race over to the meeting room booked for our team design workshop for the new project that we have just been given, and our first deadline…, is before Christmas!! However, our team appears to be all over it and I am sure that the executives will be happy with what we produce.

2.36 PM

Back to my desk to continue with reporting, anxiety kicks in as I hope that I have enough time to finish this today!!

3.30 PM

I throw my headphones on again and log on to a briefing session as we reach out to the staff members who provide us with the Intel for our reports. It was great to hear their comments and feedback and they were really excited to hear how their Intel is used around the department.

3.59 PM

I log out of the meeting to make the final adjustments to the weekly report. Thank God it is hasn’t been a big week of Intel as I would still be working on this tomorrow. When I am satisfied that I have summarised all the key insights I send it off to my supervisor to be reviewed.

4.15 PM

It is time to log off and as I am leaving the building I run into a work colleague. As I have a quick glimpse at the time I realise that I have to race out to get to the bus stop, and once again, just in time before the bus arrives.

5.30 PM

I am home with a small window to get changed, grab a quick bite and race out the door to my second job at the club.

6.00 PM

I walk through the doors right on time to start my shift in the café tonight. All the patrons are friendly and are greeting me on the way in. It is a busy night, of running out of plates and clearing tables. It doesn’t take long before my Fitbit watch (which I only put on just before my shift) starts to vibrate to advise me that I have now done over 10,000 steps.

10.00 PM

I finally sign off for the day, and I head home for a quick (which turns into a long hot) shower before I get to close my eyes and rest before another full day!!
