Why KWM?

We want to be the law firm clients love to work with and a great place to work and grow for our people. It’s important to us and our clients that our people find working at KWM an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

With a growth mindset and innovation in our DNA, we partner with our clients to bring to life pioneering solutions which will help them to adapt, reinvent and evolve. We believe innovation comes from giving our people room to grow, and as such actively encourage input and ideas from all levels of the firm.

Growth conversations and real-time feedback is also a priority.  So, whether it’s more targeted and meaningful conversations around professional and personal development, regular feedback, coaching or developing infrastructure, we want to help our people grow.

We are committed to making KWM a Great Place to Work and Grow – a place where we maximise both performance and wellbeing in a sustainable way to enable our people to flourish. We know that an engaged and motivated KWM team enhances our own experience, the experience we give to each other and the experience of our clients.

At KWM, we believe in giving our people trust and autonomy, but you are supported every step of the way with world class training, coaching and hands on experience.

KWM’s market leading Graduate Experience Program is designed to positively enhance your graduate learning experience. It is aligned with the firm’s strategic priorities and will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need for professional and personal growth.

Our graduates are critical to the success and evolution of our business. At King & Wood Mallesons, we let you go beyond the law to become what you want to be.

You will be offered a unique training experience with multiple rotations and a bespoke comprehensive learning and development program. We invest heavily in learning and development to support you in fulfilling your potential.

Our Graduate Experience Program provides a practical business foundation for junior lawyers where you will learn:

Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity for us is not optional - it is fundamental to our business success and to creating our great place to work and grow.

Diverse teams cultivate different ideas, make unique contributions, and offer innovative solutions. With an international client base such as ours, diversity enables us to deliver a service that reflects our clients’ needs and deliver an exceptional client experience.

Our key diversity and inclusion priority areas are:

  • Strengthening LGBTI inclusion
  • Creating more pathways towards Indigenous inclusion via our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and Indigenous Attraction, Employment & Retention Strategy

In addition, one of our core inclusion priorities is to lead in wellbeing through a focus on both the everyday experience of our people and evaluating and redesigning the systems in our business model. Our approach to wellbeing is both preventative and holistic, encompassing physical, psychological, intellectual, and social wellbeing.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The people, the top tier work, top tier clients.
  • Firstly, the people. I have really enjoyed working with all the teams that I completed my rotations with. Everyone is welcoming, friendly and generally interested in your wellbeing and learning. Secondly, the work. KWM has a great reputation and attracts some of the best legal work in Australia. For me this has meant exposure to some very high profile deals at an early stage in my career.
  • Fantastic training, great resources, exposure to brilliant legal minds, personal development opportunities, interesting work, perks such as gym membership/subsidised food/etc.
  • It is highly regarded in the legal world so, by association, I too have the opportunity to become highly regarded in the legal world.
  • There is a very structured graduate program where graduates are able to rotate through different practice areas and discover where their interest lies. We are also supported by friendly colleagues and ongoing training and development. There are also flexible working arrangements.
  • Lack of control over deadlines and working hours.
  • Long hours, hard work - but that's the nature of the industry.
  • Sometimes the job is demanding and leaves little time for work life balance.
  • There are not many minuses about working for KWM, perhaps the high pressure environment can be stressful at times. However, this environment can also be highly motivating and pushes me to work at my maximum level.
