Culture at MinterEllison

8.9
8.9 rating for Culture, based on 17 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
The culture is very good - in-person attendance is relatively high (although it varies on a team-by-team basis) and so the office always has a good buzz. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly, while partners and senior lawyers are extremely open and very generous with their time. It feels like everyone is genuinely invested in your success. There are a good amount of social events, mixed between whole-firm events, team-based socialising and other initiatives like the Junior Lawyers Committee and social club which both organise events throughout the year. It feels like there are ample opportunities to catch up and socialise at these events. Of course there are impromptu drinks and socialising with colleagues as well.

People are respectful and good to work with, hierarchy exists but is not imposing. People are always willing to answer questions and partners are approachable.

During hours, everyone is amazing. I haven't experienced any dramas or problems within my cohort or colleagues. Everyone seems genuinely invested in my development and my experience at the firm, whether its my supervisor or a random lawyer I run into in the elevator. It would be nice to have more Friday Night Drinks held by the firm so we can mingle with the other teams as we haven't really had them

On the whole, I've found everyone is very supportive of each other. Teamwork has been good too - with many of the seniors it feels like you are working 'with' them rather than 'for' them.

Large variance between teams. There are some teams that operate strictly top-down and don't foster a very social or inclusive environment, with an emphasis on billable output, whereas others value junior input and stimulate a very social team environment, with an emphasis on engaging, learning, and a willingness to try.

The culture is a strength of the firm. Teamwork is frequent and everyone is very collegiate and supportive. Socialising outside of office hours is not as common from what I have experienced, but I very much enjoy the in-office culture.

Minters focuses on culture at the firm. I find my teams and grad cohort to be wonderful to be around and work with.

The teams do not work in silos meaning that when you have capacity, I always like assisting anybody that needs it. It's always a great learning experience.

Varies significantly between teams within the office.

Though as with any large firm there is a hierarchy, amongst younger partners this is not felt on a day to day basis. All partners have a very open door policy and are happy to assist junior lawyers where possible. Additionally, staff relate to each other on an interpersonal level, both at equal levels and between senior and juniors. After work social frequency has decreased firm event wise, however non-company event socialising remains strong within the team

Our office has a great culture and socialises regularly, with a diverse range of people interacting across all the different teams and levels.
